Welcome
Welcome all, to this live recorded workshop
Honoring the Elements Through Drumming, Stepping and Singing
Featuring the "Element Song".
This song has been part of the instructional material for the
Signature Heart of Frame Drumming Introduction since 1999 now offered solo.
The workshop is inspired by the work of my later teacher and muse
Layne Redmond, author of When the Drummers Were Women.
She left behind this teaching of combining drumming and stepping to her students.
This is part of her legacy and lineage.
She did ritual processions as well as drummed around in circles.
Drumming and stepping was a staple and core training for all her students. This was passed down from her training with her teacher Glen Velez, the founding father of the modern frame drum movement.
Layne was his first long time student who also performed and recorded music together with Glen Velez.
Layne Redmond passed on that the drum strokes were connected to the elements.
She learned this from Hamza El Din, a well known and respected Nubian musician, singer and player of the tar.
Layne always invoked the elements through the drumming, stepping and weaving of words on her tambourine.
I love honoring the elements through drumming, stepping and singing so I am grateful for these teachings.
If you share the teachings of the connections of the drum strokes please give credit to both Layne Redmond and Hamza El Din for passing this on.
